Bed bugs can live in any area of the home. They tend to be in areas where people sleep and generally concentrate in beds, including mattresses, box springs, and bed frames. Other sites where bed bugs often reside include curtains, the corners inside dressers and other furniture, cracks in wallpaper, and inside the spaces of wicker furniture. They spread by crawling and may contaminate multiple rooms. They may also be present in boxes, suitcases, or any goods that are moved from residence to residence or from a hotel to home.

Bed bugs are small, oval, non-flying insects. Adult bed bugs reach 5-7 mm in length, while nymphs (juveniles) are as small as 1.5 mm. Bed bugs have flat bodies and may sometimes be mistaken for ticks or small cockroaches. They feed by sucking blood from humans or animals. Adult bed bugs are reddish brown in color, appearing more reddish after feeding on a blood meal. Nymphs are clear in color and appear bright red after feeding.

Understanding Bed Bugs

There is no other team of bed bug exterminators in New York City that has as much experience as us! We’ve been in the game for many years and we’ve come to know bed bugs like the back of our hands. We understand how much of an annoyance these bugs can be and suggest you learn about their behaviors, before rushing ahead. By learning about the typical behaviors of bedbugs, you’ll be able to identify an infestation much sooner, so you can make contact with a Queens bed bug exterminator, before the situation spirals out of control.

First and foremost, you can rest assured knowing that bedbugs aren’t dangerous. Although they bite a lot, they’re not dangerous to humans, since they have never been known to pass diseases or illnesses to humans. At the same time, bedbugs act very similar to nocturnal animals. Scientists do not classify them as nocturnal, but they still remain hidden during the day and only come out at night. So, it is very rare to see a physical bedbug during the day.

Identification

It is sometime possible to spot a living bedbug, but the mass majority of exterminators, who deal with bed bugs, recommend looking for the telltale signs of these pests. We do the same. Bed bugs leave behind some very obvious signs of their presence, so identifying an infestation won’t be very difficult. First, you should take a second to lift up your t-shirt and look closely at your stomach and back. Bedbug bites are red and will closely resemble welts. These are a sure sign that your home has been infested and you will need the assistance of our professional teams

Also, you should examine your bedroom, which will be the bug’s primary hunting grounds. When scouring through your bedroom, you should keep your nose open. Does your bedroom sound musty and foul? Remove your top bed-sheet and see if you can find any brown marks on the other sheets. Bedbugs tend to feed and relieve themselves frequently. If you find brown marks, you should know that these are excrement stains and they’ll confirm that you’re suffering from a bedbug infestation! Take note and make contact with us immediately
